Beautiful castle, a listed Historic Monument, at the gateway to the Morvan, with a nearly 5-hectare "Remarkable Garden" park

This beautiful castle stands on the edge of the Morvan region, perched on a rocky spur overlooking the Bazois plain. It dates back to the 13th century, with a second building added in the 17th century. It is set within a nearly 6-hectare park, designated a "Remarkable Garden."

A thousand-year history
The beautiful castle occupies the site of a fortress belonging to the Lords of Châtillon, dating back to the year 900. The Nivernais Canal borders it to the east, and the Aron River to the north. The troops of Louis XI partially destroyed it. It was rebuilt at the end of the 15th century and has since been regularly maintained and renovated. Of the medieval castle, the 15th-century main building (1.210 m²) and the 17th-century outbuildings (approximately 800 m²), renovated into an elegant "small castle," remain, along with a 13th-century turret at the tip of the spur.

The Main Castle
On the ground floor are a hunting room, a large living room, a dining room, and a 13th-century cellar. The 15th-century kitchen, in the Renaissance style, has retained its fireplace, period spit-roast, and cold room. A professional kitchen completes the space. Two spiral staircases and an elevator serve the upper floors.

First floor: A gallery opens onto a vast reception room. It also includes a library, a music room, and three bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms.

Second floor: Six bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, a living room, and an office located in the former chapel.

Third floor: Six bright bedrooms, five of which have en-suite bathrooms or shower rooms, and an attic.

Each room in this beautiful château has retained its original décor: barrel vaults or ribbed vaults, painted French-style ceilings, timber framing reminiscent of an inverted ship's hull, wood paneling, wall decorations, stone paving, and antique parquet floors.

The 17th-Century Building
Completely restored, it is located to the south of the château. It includes a bar with a lounge and fireplace, a functional kitchen, and a large reception room with groin vaults. This room extends onto a covered terrace and a relaxation area with a heated swimming pool and hammam. Upstairs, there are two suites and a bedroom with an en-suite bathroom. On the top floor, there is a meeting room, three bedrooms, and a two-bedroom apartment in the attic.

The 13th-Century Circular Tower
It faces the formal French garden. This former defensive tower has been transformed into a luxury apartment by Pierre Marie Lejeune, a renowned designer and sculptor.

The Gardens
The approximately 5-hectare park is very diverse. It includes a landscaped park designed in 1830 by the Count of Lavenne de Choulot, a formal French garden overlooking the valley, a former kitchen garden, and a pond garden accessible via a tunnel. A private path leads to the Nivernais Canal.

Protection
The facades, roofs, outbuildings, circular tower, staircases, vaulted cellars, retaining walls, terraces, and gardens of this beautiful château are protected as Historic Monuments (decree of October 24, 1989).
